In December Aspire Europe and Outperform UK Ltd were appointed by the National Audit Office to provide Programme and Project Management expertise to the NAO review of the London 2012 Olympics.
Rod Sowden and Andy Murray of Outperform UK Ltd attended the Houses of Commons on the 8th March to listen to the Parliamentary Accounts Committee review of the report.
Much time was spent on the concerns raised by Rod and Andy that the cross cutting dependencies were not fully understood, that there was no single controlling “mind” for the current phase of the programme and the success depended on concensus, should this fall apart (due to Govt cuts after the next election) the situation would not look so rosey.
For those students of Managing Successful Programmes, the Olympics is a classic programme that is morphing. In the manual it highlights programmes that impact on three different areas, Specification Led, Business Change and Societal and Cultural - the Olympics is moving through these types. The build of the arenas, the readiness or operation and ultimately the legacy.
