Gloucestershire Police Project Staff ITT

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

Aspire Europe Ltd are very pleased to have been offered the ITT to bid for the supply of long and short term project staff to the police authority for the next 5 years. We believe strongly in the concept of public sector organisations using local suppliers in the interests of economic and environmental sustainability - which makes this a particularly pleasing achievement.

Now for the big test - winning the contract

APM Group announce re-registration process for candidates

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

The APM Group has announced changes to the registration and re-registration process for examinations, their statement is as follows:

PRINCE2

From the 1st January 2008 the PRINCE2 Re-registration exam will be an Objective Testing Exam.  The exam format will be:
3 questions, with a scenario background and appendices.

  • Each of the 3 questions is worth 40 marks.
  • An overall score of 60 out of a possible 120 is required to pass.
  • One hour duration.
  • Open-book examination (only the PRINCE2 Manual is allowed).

MSP

From 1st January, Re-registration exams for MSP will be available.

The MSP Examination Board has determined that all MSP Practitioners and/or MSP Advanced Practitioners should be re-registered within 3-5 years of their original certification. This Re-registration comprises a 1-hour examination set at the same format as the Practitioner/Advanced Practitioner Examination. All Practitioners/Advanced Practitioners who will take the MSP Practitioner/Advanced Practitioner qualification from January 2008 have agreed or are agreeing to this requirement as part of their initial application and so are now designated as Registered Practitioners.

Practitioners/Advanced Practitioners certified prior to January 2008 have the opportunity to take the Re-registration examination in order to demonstrate their commitment to professional development. This is particularly important following the recent upgrading of the MSP Manual.

Those who will have qualified from January 2008 or have voluntarily undertaken the Re-registration qualification are designated as Registered Practitioners, which enables Employers and prospective Employers to be confident with their recency of knowledge and commitment to Continuing Professional Development.

Re-registration exams are available for both Practitioner and Advanced Practitioner.  A candidate will only be required to sit the Re-registration exam for the highest level of qualification they have achieved.  For example, a candidate who holds the Advanced Practitioner certificate would only be required to take the Re-registration exam for this level only.

The format of the Practitioner Re-registration exam is:
3 questions, with a scenario background and appendices.

  • Each of the 3 questions is worth 20 marks.
  • An overall score of 30 out of a possible 60 is required to pass.
  • One hour duration.
  • Closed-book examination

The format of the Advanced Practitioner Re-registration is:

A 1500 word “dissertation”  on a specific subject (selected from a range of topics) demonstrating application of MSP.  It would ideally be based on a “real life” programme that the candidate has worked within.  If this is not possible (if a candidate has not recently worked within a programme), it would be acceptable to base it on the Advanced Practitioner Case Study “MSP Care”.  There are no time restrictions imposed on this dissertation.  The exam will be marked out of a possible 75 marks with the candidate needing 38 marks to achieve a pass.

MoR

From 1st January, a Re-registration exam for MoR will also be available.

The MoR Examination Board has determined that all MoR Practitioners should be re-registered within 3-5 years of their original certification. This Re-registration comprises a 1.5-hour examination.  All Practitioners who will take the MoR Practitioner qualification from January 2008 have agreed or are agreeing to this requirement as part of their initial application and so are now designated as Registered Practitioners.

Practitioners certified prior to January 2008 have the opportunity to take the Re-registration examination in order to demonstrate their commitment to professional development. This is particularly important following the recent upgrading of the MoR Manual.

Those who will have qualified from January 2008 or have voluntarily undertaken the Re-registration qualification are designated as Registered Practitioners, which enables Employers and prospective Employers to be confident with their recency of knowledge and commitment to Continuing Professional Development.

The format of the Practitioner Re-registration exam is:

  • 75 minutes with 15 minutes pre reading time
  • Open book
  • Contains 2 sections
  • Section “A” must be attempted and represents 15 out of 40 marks
  • Section “B” contains 2 questions - 1 must be attempted. A total of 25 marks is available for section B.
  • A total score of 20 out of 40 is required to pass.

OGC Gateway Mission Critical Project Reviewers

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

Congratulations to two our leading consultants in making it through to the final stages of the process to become OGC Mission Critical Gateway reviewers.

The competition to become a reviewer is very very tough, the OGC take on very few new reviewers each year, and to date we have not been successful in getting anyone past the first sift. In this case we submitted 5 of the top people available to us, including the lead author for the new version of Prince2 and the Programme Office standard - and still only 2 got through. Congratulations to Nigel Milway and Rod Sowden and best of luck at the interviews

MSP07 and Aspie Europe Ltd make it into the Deloittes newsletter

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

One our course delegates, Steve Killen wrote this article for the Delloites in-house newsletter - we couldn’t have put it better ourselves

Managing Successful Programmes Update – By Steve Killen

As many of you may know, the OGC’s framework for programme management, “Managing Successful Programmes” has been undergoing a rewrite for the last 18 months.

A team of 4 authors have been working to a brief provided by the OGC Reference Group which has significantly expanded the guidance offered to users of the framework. Further governance has been applied to the process by a 25 strong Review Group who have provided comments and input at critical points in the development.

The new version is due for release on the 3rd September and feedback from people who have read it suggests that it will be very well received and is regarded as a significant step forward.

The new version (code named MSP07) builds on the solid foundation of the previous two versions and brings it up to date with the maturing market for programme management and includes reference to approaches and techniques which have evolved since the last release in 2003.

The major changes include:

New chapters – there are six new chapters, one as part of the Introduction which introduces the concept of Programme Management Principles on which successful programmes are built. Two in the Governance Themes one of which cover Vision and the second covers Blueprint Design and Delivery. In the Appendices there are three new chapters covering Adopting MSP, Health Checks and Programme Offices.

Major changes – includes a revamp of documents to bring a consistent approach to the contents of Strategies, Plans etc. New documents include a Programme Definition Document and a number of new plans to support the implementation and delivery of the strategies. The Transformational Flow has significant additional information and guidance in the area of business change management, with a much greater emphasis on the Programme Board, which was effectively dropped in the last version.

New terminology – the current Programme Lifecycle is referred to as the Transformational Flow and what were previously the MSP Principles are now known as the Governance Themes.
